Terms of Service

Plain English: Buy once, use forever. We don't own your content. AI output might be wrong — check it before you rely on it. Email us within 30 days if something isn't working and we'll refund you.
What Gist is
Gist is a macOS menu bar utility that lets you run AI commands on selected text. It is a tool — we provide the interface, not the AI models. AI processing is handled either by third-party providers you configure (using your own API keys) or by local models running on your Mac.
License
When you purchase Gist, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on any Mac you own. One purchase covers all your personal Macs. This license is perpetual — it does not expire.
Free trial
Gist includes a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. After the trial period, a one-time purchase is required to continue using the app.
Refunds
If Gist doesn't work for you, email us at support@gistapp.io within 30 days of purchase and we'll issue a full refund. No questions asked. For App Store purchases, refunds are processed through Apple.
Your API keys
You are responsible for your own API keys. Gist stores them locally in your macOS Keychain and sends them only to the provider you've configured. We do not have access to your keys. Keep them secure and do not share them.
Your content
We do not own, access, store, or claim any rights to the text you process through Gist. Your content is yours.
AI output
AI-generated results may contain errors, inaccuracies, or biased content. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying any AI output before using it. Do not rely on AI output for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions without independent verification.
Third-party services
Gist connects to third-party AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter) when you configure an API key. Your use of these services is governed by their respective terms of service. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of third-party services.
Local AI
The local AI feature downloads and installs Ollama and open-source AI models on your Mac. These models are provided by their respective creators under their own licences. We are not responsible for the output quality or behaviour of third-party models.
Acceptable use
Do not use Gist to generate content that is illegal, harmful, abusive, or violates the rights of others. Do not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the app.
Availability and updates
We may release updates to Gist at our discretion. We do not guarantee any specific features, update schedule, or compatibility with future versions of macOS.
Limitation of liability
Gist is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to data loss, incorrect AI output, or incompatibility with your system.
Termination
We reserve the right to revoke your licence if you violate these terms. You may stop using Gist at any time by deleting the app.
Changes
We may update these terms. Continued use of Gist after changes constitutes acceptance. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes are made.
